Umbrian Train to Perugia

Two weeks ago we decided to take the train from our local station Trestina to Perugia to sample the delights of local transport.
We were not disappointed! Apart from the cost - Euro30 return for five of us, the little train was a delight. Although from the outside it looks a little battle weary, full of colouful grafitti and only two coaches, it was clean, comfortable and most of all great fun. As we passed through Niccone, Umbertide, Pierantonio etc. it let out a little Thomas the Tank Engine whoop which delighted my three year old grand daughter no end, not to mention my husband! As we began our ascent to Perugia Santa Ana station, the steep climb seemed that it would be too much for the little engine but it masterfully achieved its aim. Umbria Jazz and train rides

We took the little train which goes from Sansepolcro to Perugia on Saturday to see what was happening at the Jazz Festival. It was fantastic. In the park not far from Santa Ana station a wonderful group were playing, there was a huge marquee where you could purchase all manner of wonderful food and drink and the atmosphere was amazing. This festival gets better every year. The station we used was Trestina which is our local village station and for the princely sum of EUR5.50 return we had a wonderful stress free day out.
